2020 is pregnant with promises and prospects waiting for us to explore and make more earnings than we made last year. I have taken time to research on different side hustles that someone can take up to earn an extra income.

A side hustle is any job that you do away from your full-time job and it could be done either in the evening or during the weekends or at any other time. I am writing this article for those who want to supplement the main salary. With the rising economic crisis, it is advisable to have an extra income which also helps in reducing debts. Also, most companies are shutting down abruptly leaving people with no idea of what to do next or how to survive jobless.

I will try as much as possible to list some that I have personally tried and tested or jobs that I have seen testimonies from others. Should you have any questions feel free to comment after the article for any clarification. I am also inviting any additional ideas and corrections too.

  1. Dropshipping

Dropshipping according to Wikipedia refers to a supply chain management method in which the retailer does not keep goods in stock but instead transfers its customer’s orders and shipment details to either the manufacturer, another retailer, or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the customer.

There are different dropshipping sites that you could set-up your store with. This is an easy way to earn online and you only require your laptop and internet to work on it. You will also need to market your store and research on your niche finding the exact products they would be interested in. Below is a link for Oberlo which is a dropshipping website provider to get you started.

2. Consultancy

In recent times we have small businesses cropping up every day. These businesses might not have the budgets to hire full-time employees so they will need your services. You can offer your professional services such as accounting, tutoring, law, communication, architecture among others.

3. Social media marketing

Social media marketing is one of the online jobs that is rapidly growing and has a promising future ahead of it. If you spend a lot of time online you should consider being a social media marketer and let your time earn you money. One platform that you can find social media marketing jobs is

Guru is an online platform that connects online job seekers to potential employees and registration is free of charge.

4. Filing tax returns

In my country, Kenya filing annual income returns runs from January to June. Most people do not know how to go about the process though it can be done online within a span of a few minutes. Individual companies mostly struggle during the last minute trying to file their returns rushing with the deadline and going through so many frustrations. The process is very simple if the client is already registered with Itax, it is only a matter of logging in and filing.

5. Tenderer

Yes, yes, tendering. Tendering in Kenya has been tainted as corruption based business and slow in paying but it does not hurt to give it a try. Tenders from the government and county offices can be a process to apply but I believe we can always give it a try.

There you go. I hope theses ideas make a financial difference in your life this year.

Don’t forget to leave a comment for other readers and I.
