This year for sure we are going to have the holiday seasons like no other. Everything is going to be different, from our normal routines and celebrations.

2020’s end of year celebrations bring about a different new normal and more so for us who enjoy being in social gatherings, catching up with friends from all over, travelling and so much more. Grab you mask, and have some extras before we can start.

So what does it mean to enjoy December celebrations amidst coronavirus infections? We definitely have to be more careful what we do, places we visit and where we go.

However we cannot cancel our plans and push our plans aside, but its intelligent to make the right choices for our health.

First things first, update yourself with Covid-19 statistics for the area you would like to visit. What are the numbers of infections in that area? Ask yourself if indeed it is safe for you or your loved ones. This is because we need to minimize the number of people we shall meet over the holidays. Avoiding crowds and public beaches, parks, stadia etc. Let us shift our minds to less crowded areas, ask you which parts am I less likely to meet a lot of people. Once identified you are able to reduce your chances of coming to contact with anyone who is infected. In the case that you have to go to a gathering, ensure that the event is an outdoor event. That there is free flow of air

If your plans are to enjoy the holidays in a hotel, you will need to confirm if they are observing Covid-19 rules. This includes checking body temperature, maintaining social distancing, hand hygiene, and are the staff Corona free? These are the questions you will need to ask, they should also ensure that the staff also wear masks too. Are the keen on ventilation? Check how they take care of furniture and surrounding, do they sanitize surfaces frequently?

Well, let us assume that you want to avoid the outdoor activities and decide to have a small party or get together at your compound. It is best advice to have your close family only, but what if you want to invite over your friends? Decided to have barbecue at your backyard?  Rule no.1 limits the guests depending on your space. The whole idea is to prevent risk of infections. Ensure that your friends visiting are not infected and do not show any signs of corona. Even then maintain social distancing. Make a step of placing sanitizers around and hand washing points. Encourage wearing of masks whenever people are chatting.

An important point to consider is whether your guests had travelled from a different country. Did they follow covid-19 guidelines such as self -isolation for 14 days? Were they tested at the point of entry and are the results with confirmation out? If the answers to these questions are negative then let them join you virtually.

If you desire to travel you need to remember that you are at a higher risk of contracting the disease as you are more exposed. Avoid close contact and wear your masks properly when using public transport. When you are out there, always avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.

Times might change, our ways of being happy might change but it’s only if we remain healthy are we able to have more upcoming holidays.

Wishing you all happy holidays.
